Why It Matters
We believe every child deserves to experience the joy and creative freedom of opera. OperaEd creates inclusive, welcoming spaces that allow young people to grow through music and performance.
The Bigger Picture

In more than two‑thirds of primary schools visited by Ofsted, music is delivered mainly by non‑specialist teachers, with many lacking confidence or sufficient musical knowledge to teach the curriculum well.

In 2019, more than 50% of primary schools responding to a survey said they were not meeting their curriculum obligations to Year 6, citing the pressure of statutory tests as a key reason.

In a study of 574 children aged 8–10 participating in chamber‑orchestra workshops, 82% reported positive emotions when listening to live classical music; over half specifically felt calm or relaxed.

“My son was captivated by the show, but especially amazed to see someone who looked like him singing the tenor role. Afterwards, he asked if he could be a singer one day.”
